What Is the Override Method®?
The Override Method® is a relationship clarity framework for women who can recognise that something is wrong but find that contact or emotional pressure pulls them back into doubt. Finding clarity is not always the problem. A woman may already understand what she sees, what has happened, or the advice she has been given. Then there is a message, a conversation, a change in tone, guilt, hope, fear or another period of calm, and what felt clear starts moving again.
The facts may not have changed. Her ability to hold onto her own judgement has. Override was built for that point.
Clear → Contact → Unsettled
She was clear until contact unsettled her judgement, even though the underlying facts may still be the same. Override brings the repeating pattern into view so she can see what happens to her judgement under pressure, reconnect with what she has already noticed and make her next decision from steadier ground.
The aim is not to tell her whether to stay, leave, proceed or wait. It is to help her make that decision from her own judgement rather than from the pressure she is under at the time.
What Makes the Override Method® Different
The women who come into this work are often not short of insight. They have thought about the relationship, asked questions, received advice and had moments where things felt completely clear. The problem is that the clarity does not always hold once they are back inside the relationship dynamic.
One conversation can change her footing. A calm few days can make the pattern feel less serious. Guilt can make a reasonable boundary suddenly feel selfish. Hope can make her question what she had already seen. The Override Method® works with that gap, the point between seeing the pattern and being able to hold onto what she sees when the pressure returns.
Signal and Override
Signal is what she notices before the pressure gets involved. Something does not add up. Something feels wrong. The same pattern keeps happening despite what is being said. The signal is not proof, but it is what we examine before it gets explained away.
Override is what happens afterwards. Explanations, hope, guilt, fear or reassurance start pulling her away from what she noticed. She minimises it, explains it away, reopens the question or starts wondering whether the problem is her own judgement.
The strike-through in Override begins at the I for a reason. It marks the interruption point, when the pattern is brought into view and stops running unseen.
The outcome is a woman who is steadier in her own judgement and better able to hold onto what she sees when the pressure returns. For some women, getting that back changes far more than what happens in the relationship.
Finding clarity once is not the whole problem. The deeper work is whether that clarity survives contact.
Where the Override Method® Is Used
The Override Method® forms the foundation of the private one-to-one work offered through this practice. It does not replace legal advice, therapy, mediation, safeguarding, crisis support or specialist domestic abuse support. It sits alongside them and works specifically with the relationship pressure that can make it difficult for a woman to trust and hold onto her own judgement.
The Override Method® is a proprietary framework developed by John Craig and delivered through Override Coaching OÜ.
